My motivation for bringing the tragedy of
the Hindenburg to the screen was to answer many questions that
have remained unanswered up to now. While the actual events
that caused the crash are vague, my great intellect enabled
me to deduce, in mere minutes, what must have actually happened.
I also realized that I could not to let
historical fact cloud this sudden insight, so I consciously avoided
any sort of actual research whatsoever. Anything in this movie
that hints at the real history is accidental and based entirely
on my memory of a documentary I watched when I was seven years
old.
